“Hi there, miss!” Crutchie called out to the young woman he saw passing by his street corner. He took a step forward, leaning on his crutch as he took out a newspaper from his bag. “Pape, miss?” He held the paper up to his eyes, inspecting the price. Maybe it only read one cent, but nobody ever came chasing after him if it was a bit more, right? “It’s only five cents!” He called to the young lady, and put on his best smile.

          Anna quickly turned her head as she heard someone called out to her. Maybe it was Anna’s ears playing with her, so she made sure. “Me?” she asked and she was answered by how he smiled and offered the price. It was probably rude for Anna to stare, but his crutch caught her eye. Anna pitied the boy, but she returned the smile and tried her best not to bring it up.

          "Sure, I could use the paper,“ she said and gave him the money. She glanced at the paper and saw that the price was one cent. Anna didn’t dare to ask him for her change, so she kept her mouth shut. "You’re here often?”
